“Will you please say a huge thank you to the brilliant African Sambistas for entertaining us at the concert with such a fantastic performance on Thursday. I hope you will agree that the event was a great success! I hope I managed to get some good photos of you all. It was so kind of so many of the group to take time out to perform. All the performers contact details are being passed on to the organiser of the ‘Celebrating Age’ festival in September and so you may get a call to perform at the Colston Hall. Thank you once again, Best wishes, Shelagh”
Feedback from Senior Sambistas gig at The Elders Conference Thurs 12th May 2011
All dance groups manifested unimaginable energy, be it in the form of acrobatic leaps, graceful stretching, earthy stomping or primal creeping; come the end of the night, the crowd was bursting with enthusiasm. Onlookers were singing along by the second performance and needed little encouragement to join the African Sambista drummers for the closing communal dance. Any pre-conceived barriers between stage and audience were destroyed and the down-to-earth performers could be seen mingling and talking with the audience as they watched the rest of the programme. Managing to detach the crowd from the half-hearted British spring, dancers, musicians and a dedicated backstage team truly succeeded in summoning their audience to Africa.
